On one of our recent South Island tours we stopped in at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy which is about 20 minutes drive from Queenstown.
The Kawarau Bridge Bungy was New Zealand’s first commercial bungy jumping operation and was started by AJ Hackett in 1988. It is still one of New Zealand’s most popular bridge bungy spots thanks to the stunning location between the sheer cliffs of the Kawarau gorge. And also because jumpers are given the option to have their head dunked in the cool deep turquoise waters of the river.
Check out the video of Alex jumping.
The bridge sits 43m above the picturesque Kawarau River near Queenstown in the South Island. You might recognise the river from a scene in The Lord of The Rings.
A couple of our group including our guide Alex were brave enough to jump off the bridge much to the delight of the rest of the group.
