Marlene & Roberta (Bobbi) hail from Hawaii, the islands of beautiful rainbows and visiting New Zealand had been on their radar for a long while.
After a week of self-guided exploration of Auckland, Hobbiton and Rotorua where they walked in the Redwoods, enjoyed the similarity of the Maori culture with their own and took in the breathtaking geothermal wonders of the Waimangu Valley; it was time to head south to begin their road trip with Constance.
Their week long sojourn saw them travel across the Arthur’s Pass to the West Coast to the Tasman Sea, stopping for a walk among the limestone formations of Castle Hill.
They saw the grand glaciers of Franz Josef, Fox and the Tasman. Took a helicopter ride with a snow landing in the Remarkables, above Queenstown, and were blown away by the sheer majesty of Milford Sound.
The road trip also included a stroll around the Chinese Mining Settlement in Arrowtown, tipples at the Cardrona Distillery & historic Cardona Hotel and a boat trip across Lake Te Anau to check out the glow worms.
As well they took a walk along the Hooker Valley Track, interacted with the cheeky Kea (our Alpine Parrot), fed (& ate) some of NZ’s delicious Salmon plus stopped at a few bake houses for a lunch of savoury pies.
The week positively whizzed by and simply wasn’t long enough. They have vowed to return…
