The Berghoefer family from Minnesota came to NZ during their daughter’s spring break. Signing up for a week long Lord of the Rings tour, they hit the ground running with the first stop being Hobbiton in Matamata. They were not disappointed.

Other LOTR highlights in the North Island included walking through Mordor, eyeing Mt Doom and visiting Gollum’s pool at Tongariro National Park. Their guide Constance also tested the family’s knowledge with daily trivia around the films.

Their adventures continued in the South Island where the group got to dress up and practice their swashbuckling swordmanship with Nomad Safari’s Glenorchy half-day LOTR experience.

Then after spending a night in an alpine village viewing NZ’s highest peak, Mt. Cook, the family concluded their LOTR trip with an energetic march (accompanied by the movie soundtrack) up Mt Sunday aka Edoras, home of the Golden Hall and the Rohan Riders.

The family also got to enjoy walks in a Redwood forest and geo-thermal parks, soaked in mud-baths and hot pools plus sampled some of our countries finest wines and spirits in the Otago region.

We would love to show you around New Zealand soon
